INTERVIEW
With Sarah Barthel of Phantogram

Favourite show that you’ve played so far?
We just played a venue in Minneapolis called First Avenue last night and it’s the venue where Purple Rain was recorded … personally I think that’s top of my list at the moment.
Three emerging artists you’re listening to?
I just got this record from this band called Gem Club that I really like, kind of sad piano, cello and a lot of reverb. I’m also a big fan of a band called EXITMUSIC and another artist called Com Truise.
How was playing with Questlove on Jimmy Fallon?
Playing with Questlove was a dream come true. It was really hard to believe at first when he said he wanted to play drums for us … I couldn’t believe it was happening. He ended up making the whole experience a lot less nerve wracking because he was so used to it - he was like, ‘let’s do it - let’s play this song’. He totally balanced out our nerves in the end. We were able to play and enjoy it, without having to worry about messing up.
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
I think … OutKast, Andre 3000 or Big Boi. Josh and I are big hip hop fans and Outkast were one of my influences.
What countries are you hoping to tour next?
We did a months tour in Europe a couple of years ago, so we’re hoping to get back there. Josh and I are also really looking forward to play Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
